‘Activation’ emerges as the next level of employee productivity as ‘engagement’ struggles

As a raft of changes affect businesses, employers need workers who are independent, proactive, and creative at solving novel problems. However, such needs leave merely ‘engaged’ employees a step behind. Leaders are finding that activity and engagement does not necessarily equate to genuine productivity or outcomes. Instead, a new paradigm is emerging: employee activation.

Activation transcends mere job satisfaction or a positive work environment. It taps into employees' intrinsic motivation and emotional connection to their work, peers, and the organization's goals. Activated employees are invested in the success of their team and the company, serving as vigilant observers who identify opportunities for improvement and act as a human firewall against potential losses.

To cultivate an activated workforce, leaders must address the six facets of human needs: Clarity, Connection, Consideration, Contribution, Challenge, and Confidence. By ensuring clarity of roles and expectations, fostering a sense of belonging, valuing individual contributions, encouraging growth and challenge, and promoting transparency and trust, leaders can unlock unprecedented levels of performance and security. As businesses navigate the complexities of the modern workplace, prioritizing employee activation is not just a strategic move—it's an essential one for driving productivity and safeguarding against risks.
