Employee feedback evolves amid an increasing need for clarity

The annual performance review is giving way to more frequent, candid feedback as companies seek greater workforce efficiency and clarity, the WSJ reports. Younger leaders are driving more transparent cultures where peer-to-peer critiques during meetings and everyday conversations are the norm.

Some firms now train employees on delivering constructive feedback. AI is emerging that can analyze interactions and provide insights to improve performance. While constant feedback requires navigating potentially sensitive conversations, leaders say it boosts engagement.

Annual reviews no longer suffice. Workers increasingly expect clarity through continuous, personalized feedback on how to improve. As millennials lead, blunt critiques and data-driven assessments will likely become standard. The ultimate goal is unlocking productivity, not just grading it annually.
